Gibson Custom 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue BOTB 86 (Beauty of the Burst) Heavy Aged
Since the Sunburst Les Paul models went out of production in 1960, the popularity and demand for original “bursts” has grown to mythic proportions. Only 10 years after discontinuation, the price of a used example was already 4x greater than at introduction. Today, prices for a 58-60 “burst” have risen deep into the 6-figure territory.
From the pages of history and Gibson Custom comes this spot-on, far more attainable replica, right out of page 86 of the book “The Beauty Of The Burst.”
This particular “beauty” is based on a 1959 Cherry Sunburst Les Paul that’s faded to a magnificent “Golden Poppy” color, with a dulled “VOS” Nitrocellulose Lacquer finish. Each bit of belt-rash, playing, and handling wear accumulated over the years has been meticulously recreated by Gibson’s Murphy Labs, adding true aged authenticity to this stunning replica. Collectors, historians, and players will love the exposed “double white” bobbin covers found only on a rare few late 59/early 60 examples. Underneath, a matched set of Alnico III magnet Custombuckers provides PAF power with a sweet, singing top-end tone. The control cavity is loaded with a hand-wired harness, 500k Chicago Telephone Systems pots, and paper-and-oil caps.
As is with all of Gibson's current line-up of Custom Shop Historic Les Paul re-issues, every last detail is in place to bring you the coveted sound, feel, and look of the priceless originals. Under the book-matched flame maple cap, a one-piece mahogany body, hand-chosen for resonance and light weight, contributes to the comfortable 8.5lb total. A vintage “C”- shaped neck carve is capped with a medium-brown Indian rosewood board and medium Jumbo fret wire, for a vintage feel with a modern edge. Just as it was done in the 50s, the long tenon neck joint is laminated with Hide glue for strength/stability and positive resonance transfer.
Gibson Custom Shop/Murphy Labs Certificate of Authenticity, Lifton “California Girl” 50’s style hardshell case, sustain, and bragging rights are all included.
